Hospitals
As good as the medical care is in this state I
think we can all agree that the system has some
problems. Too much money is being spent on illegal
immigrants and not enough is being spent on average
U.S. citizens.
Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and
Labor Act, hospitals with emergency rooms are required
to treat patients regardless of citizenship. Congress
has enacted an appropriation of $250 million dollars
per year to help offset some of the costs due to
illegal immigrants using this service. My proposal is
simple: if we can control the border we will help
control hospital expenses. I'm not proposing to cut
off all immigration, but right now the situation is
out of hand. I'm simply asking that we take control
if for no other reason to help hospitals lower their
costs spent on people who can't pay.
So what should we be spending money on? The
government pays for airports, roads, libraries,
schools, agencies, departments, and all sorts of other
things that are for public use. Why not medical
equipment? If the government pays for an MRI machine
with technicians to run it and charges a nominal fee
for any citizen to make use of it, then this mass use
will lower initial costs of paying for it while still
keeping its fee to use reasonable. I propose a system
that lets people come in and use state-sponsored test
equipment such as MRI machines, scales, blood pressure
meters, and other devices. The patient would then get
a DVD or CD with all their information on it without
ever having to see a doctor. They can then study it
for themselves and/or take it to any professional.
The economy will thank you when we are we have a
healthier workforce that is more capable of competing
in a capitalist environment.
