2006-04-30p01`Cobb Democratic J.J. Dinner Report'BB Last night, April 29, 2006, was the Cobb Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Dinner, a fund raiser event for the party. Some notes are: 1) Roy Barnes -- When I was walking into the hotel where the dinner was being held, I joined in parallel walk Roy Barnes and Marie. I was keeping my head respectively low, but Roy came over and shook my hand. I immediately said apologetically that I was trying to shake the tree, referring to my running for governor. He said it needed shaking. Note, it was not meant to be an endorsement. 2) Mark Taylor -- was at the VIP reception for which I came afterwards. I heard him in the crowd for a while, then he left. 3) Michael Thurmond -- was the guest speaker, who is the current labor commissioner and who is running for re-election. He is black and in his speech he pointed out an interest thought: The Republicans were trying to make the Democratic Party the black party. He asked the blacks in the hall to stand and please take respect for the remaining whites because they, the blacks, need the white vote. 4) Herb Butler --, one of the long time union supporters at the party, was there, but his cancer was flaring up again. Hope all goes well. Bill
